Caring for pediatric patients with a functional medicine approach.

Uncovering root causes of illness to help kids heal and thrive.

Julia Zahn, APRN

Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Julia Zahn

It is a joy and privilege to work with children, parents and families. I am passionate about integrating traditional medicine with a functional approach to help kids heal and thrive.

My background: I have spent nearly 20 years as a pediatric nurse with 12 of those years as a pediatric nurse practitioner. I received my Masters of Science in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago Illinois and my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin. My Masters Program specialized in pediatric primary care and I'm a Board Certified Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. I learned pediatric functional medicine through the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS). I completed the Fellowship program which included in depth functional training in Environmental Medicine, Neurology, Metabolism, Gastroenterology, Nutrition, Immunology, and Advanced Clinical Practice.

Outside of work I love being home with my husband Kirk and my three children. We love to be outdoors, read great books, find adventures, and learn new things. Most of all we love to follow Jesus.

My Approach

I begin with taking a detailed history starting with mom’s pregnancy through the child’s current health issues.

I pay close attention to a child’s nutritional status, the health of the microbiome, immune function, environmental exposures, and psychological health.

I use a variety of diagnostic and laboratory testing to identify the underlying causes of illness.

I prescribe nutritional supplements and pharmaceutical treatments when necessary.

I recommend treatments that are evidenced-based which means they have been studied and deemed both safe and effective.

I sometimes recommend other therapies that may be needed such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy

I rely on the expertise of pediatric specialists and refer to them when needed.
